Management Systems / Business Process Improvement
by Mr. Alyson Yap
Family-based enterprises typically build on the vision and hard work of the founding elder(s). Early successes, however, are often followed by a a stage of uncertainty and instability as the enterprises struggles to overcome constraints arising from inappropriate management structures, ill-defined and undocumented work processes, and outdated work methods and technologies. This stage of uncertainty is characterized by the blurring of business directions, poorly defined business processes and operating procedures, overlapping roles and responsibilities, and stressful work load conditions.
Companies who are unable to overcome this period of turbulence either go into a downward spiral and fade out of business, fall prey to 3rd party takeover, or barely survive with minimal growth and profitability
To achieve a path path of sustainable growth and profitability, companies have to step back and review operations in order to clarify decision making protocols, define operating processes and improve methods and procedures, and establish command and control guidelines.
