Business Family Relationship and Teambuilding Facilitation
by Dr. Pilar U. Tolentino
At the foundation of every successful family business is the strong bond and commitment of the business family. It is the unwavering support of the family that becomes the main competitive strength of the business.
With Ateneo Family Business Development Center’s (AFBDC) years of experience in working with family businesses, we have proven the fact that the well being of both the family and the business are equally essential. We also understand the unique challenges of keeping the bond strong for families in business.
AFBDC’s Business Family Relationship and Teambuilding Facilitation provides members of business families the opportunity to build fulfilling family relationships thus providing a strong foundation for better and more effective family and working relationships. This facilitation program will help family members get together for better understanding, clarifying expectations, alignment of individual and family needs with business demands, and setting common vision for the family. This program will facilitate the development of family teambuilding skills like committing to shared goals, effective communication, consensus building, managing differences, and conflict resolution.
The flow and pacing of this facilitation is flexible to match the particular need of the family. Activities will depend on the areas in the relationship that will need to be addressed. And because every business family is unique, the facilitation may be different for each family that will take this program.
The entire engagement includes the following:
Part I – Individual Interviews
The facilitator will be meeting with each member of the family separately. The purpose of the meeting is for the facilitator to better understand the family from each member’s perspective.
Part II – 2-day Family Facilitation
The family will be engaging in a two-day facilitation program. Actual topics that will be covered and activities that will be done will depend on the data gathered from the individual interviews.
Part III – Follow-up Session
A follow up session will be scheduled not longer than two months from the facilitation date. This is to provide family members the opportunity to review and immediately address any concerns that might come out after the facilitation. In the follow up session, there will be individual interviews again and a one day family session.
